I know very little of American history so found this a really interesting read Jane. Also that is a large family of children, and just looking at the gaps there could have been more in between who perhaps didn't survive. Great research.

I'm finding family migrations in the American Colonial and Post-Colonial periods fascinating. The logistics behind moving a family, belongings, livestock, etc., had to be onerous. It wasn't just calling the movers and letting them handle it. I have a new level of respect for their tough spirits.

Absolutely! And deciding on, and enacting, big changes like that took a lot of courage ... Although in Richard's case there was a strong push factor. The decision was more or less made for them. But for many it would have been a big decision to try out somewhere else that may offer better opportunities than those currently available to them.

The six year gap between Isaac and Betsy implies one or two infant deaths.

Thanks. Yes that was my thinking. Either that or there are missing records of the other children. I think if there were other children who lived they would have turned up in the records somewhere though.
